After fourteen weeks of summer break, my kids went back to school this week. They attended school on Tuesday, and we had our first homeschool day on Wednesday. I decided that on homeschool days, I am going to keep a little notebook handy to write what I call “Noticing Notes.”
The Burden of Labor
The brilliant Nicholas Carr didn't have to go all Robert Frost on me to make me like his writing even more. I just finished Carr's book The Glass Cage, which I read shortly after reading his earlier book The Shallows. Both of the books opened my eyes to technology's influence on the working world and on our souls.
Stuff That is Actually Going Right
Early fall weather and Irma aside, we have had a challenging beginning to the start of sixth grade this year. Yesterday Bauer was consumed with schoolwork from 8:30am until 9pm. There were some breaks along the way, and meals, but he carried the burden of many things still unfinished all throughout the day as he slogged through one challenging task after another.
